BREAKING: Nigeria’s FG suspends Twitter, directs NCC to issue license to social media operators

Nigeria’s Federal Government has suspended microblogging site, Twitter, from operating in the country.

This development may not be unconnected with the decision of the platform to take down a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari, which was considered inciteful.

According to a statement by the  minister of of Information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, the federal government accused the platform of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

Segun Odeyemi, a media aide to the minister who quoted the federal government directive through a signed statement, further stated that the FG directed the Nigeria’s Broadcasting Commission to commence issuance of licences to all OTT and social media operators.
