Bye-Election: Eleka condemns killings, charges politicians to add values to lives of youth

Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and PDP governoship candidate in 2018 election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka, has condemned in its totality the killings at Ekiti East by some hired thugs during the bye-election.

He also explained that youths should be engaged positively to add values to Ekiti and not be used as political thugs.

Recall that two people were reportedly shot dead and many injured by armed thugs during Ekiti East Consistency 1 bye-election in Ekiti state.

Reacting, Eleka said politicians should engage in a massive youth developmental programmes that will reshape their orientation toward contributing to nation building, rather than using them as tools for manipulation.

“There is no ambiguity in the fact that All Progressive Congress in Ekiti state has failed in all standard of governance.

“I believe politics should be a selfless service to the people. We must also make sure killings and violence during elections are no longer encouraged in our land,” Eleka said.

“A businessman and former member of House of Assembly, Dayo Maxima, was attacked few months ago. Today, a police woman and innocent citizen were killed by sponsored armed thugs. For how long would this continue in Ekiti? When would all these unnecessary killings in our dear state stop?

“It is really a sad moment in Ekiti state today.”

Calling on the Commissioner of Police to salvage the wanton killings in Ekiti or resign, Eleka said it would be a shame if those behind the killing of his officer are not arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

“Now that a police officer was killed in the course of discharging her duties, the perpetrators must be brought to book,” Eleka warned.
