BENIN – Passionately, moved by the plights of traders whose shops were gutted by fire some weeks ago, the 2016 gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant for 2020 gubernatorial, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu this morning visited Uwelu Spare Parts Market for an on the spot assessment of havoc caused by the inferno.
Accompanied by the Federal lawmaker representing Ikpoba Okha/Egor federal constituency, Hon. Jude Ise-Idehen, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu addressed traders in the Market.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, the Chairman of Uwelu Spare parts market, Mr. Austin Osaretin Ebie, appreciated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for coming to visit them. He appealed to him to support them (traders) in whatever capacity he can.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in his address, while sympathizing with them stated that though Edo state government has visited the scene of the mishap, advised government to ensure the committee of enquiry constituted by the governor, make public their findings in no distant time.
“I also expect the government to also assist the affected traders in the area of rebuilding a more befitting market that will accommodate more traders with the state of the art fire fighting equipment. Sadly, accessing one of the largest spare parts market in Nigeria is so challenging especially when it rains as all roads leading to the market are in very deplorable state”, he added.
Thereafter, POI and Hon. Ise-Idehen donated an undisclosed sum to the traders as an interim measure to cushion the effect of the disaster, and in addition POI prayed for them.
