Former Super Eagles Coach Samson Siasia on Friday reacted to the announcement by world football governing body, FIFA, which banned him for life from all football-related activities and fined him CHF 50,000 for bribery and match-fixing allegations.
Siasia, apart from declaring the allegation against him as false, also promised to fight it with the last of his blood.rubi
The body had banned the former Nigeria international for life for agreeing to “receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches,” FIFA said in a statement on Friday.
Reacting to the development, Siasia maintained that FIFA’s allegations against him were baseless and untrue.
“I just read online that I have been banned which to me is laughable. How can you raise these baseless allegations?
“I will fight with the last drop of my blood to prove a point that FIFA statement and verdict against me is the falsehood of the century,” Siasia said.
In letter made public on Friday, FIFA stated: “The Ethics Committee has found Mr Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”
In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 50,000 (US$50,000) has been imposed on Mr Siasia.”
According to the FIFA Code of Ethics Committee, the sanction stems against Siasia were from an ongoing “large-scale investigation” FIFA is conducting into the behaviour of Wilson Raj Perumal, a convicted match-fixer from Singapore.
Siasia was the coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles between 2010 and 2011 and for a spell in 2016 but the time period when FIFA believes he committed his infractions is unclear.
He has also served as coach of the country’s Under-20 and Under-23 sides.
