Senator Dino Melaye has declared that before he obeys the rules of the Senate, he will first obey the bible. This he declared while addressing members of the Christian Association of Nigeria during the body’s General Assembly in Abuja yesterday.
The Senator also charged Christians in Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria specifically to rise up to the occasion and continue to be steadfast in the faces of the challenges in the country even as he also charged those in power to know that power indeed belongs to the people.
The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial district, in his charge said Christians in government to know that true power belongs to the people;
”Government is owned by the people, those of us in power are less than 5% of the population. So power truly belongs to the people and Christians must make sure we use our various offices to propagate the doctrine and tenet of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
”If you are not doing that, then automatically you are working against God.”
Continuing his speech he said;
”Finally, every Christian must know like I have vowed, before I obey the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, before I obey the rules of the Senate, I will first obey the Bible” to which he received a round of applause from those in attendance at the meeting.
”And as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I announce that the Church in Nigeria will grow, so any attempt, any consideration to weaken the church, is a joke. We will triumph, we will march on and the gate of hell shall not prevail”, to shouts of a loud amen from the congregants.”
He apparently tried stirring the honet’s nest later when he declared that Christians in government should tell their principals that there is a difference between light and darkness.
”So I challenge all of us in power, all of us in government at all levels to tell our principals, to tell the president, to tell the Vice President, to tell the President of the Senate, to tell the Speaker that there is a difference between light and darkness. If you can’t do that, then you are not a child of God. And you are not a representative of God in government,” he says.
He finally prayed that God Almighty will strengthen the Christian Association of Nigeria, adding that Nigerians at this time needs unity in our national life since divided we fall and together we stand.
