The North Korean leader made headlines on new year’s eve, during the country extraordinary session of the workers Party Central Committee, he threatened to resume nuclear and missile tests and also go against the U.S. until they reversed their hostile policy against his country.
The state controlled propaganda media, reported last week of Kim’s paying his respect at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, the mausoleum of his grandfather and regime founder Kim II-sung and his father Kim Jong-IL, but there were no pictures published.
Speculation flying around is that Kim has gone into hiding since January 3rd assassination of Iran’s top military general by drone
The assassination of the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force, General Qassem Soleimani was carried out by a drone strike by of U.S. President, Donald Trump.
According to experts, this is not new as Kim Jong-un father and Predecessor, Kim Jong-il also went into hiding when the U.S. invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003.
Analyst are claiming Trump’s acts of aggression towards Iran are more for his benefits than the country as he is using it as a show to drum up support for his re-election and to silent the impeachment drama.
With Pyongyang yet to comment officially on the assassination, they will be quite happy that Trump chooses Iran to focus his anger on his bizarre bid to win votes for reelection later this year.
The chairman of the Asia, Pacific, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ami Bera, stated to VOA that North Korea will be sanctioned if they happen to resume missile and nuclear testing. He also claimed that he would encourage Trump to resume the U.S. annual full scale -joint drill with South Korea, a move which would definitely unsettle the North Koreans.
It remains unclear if the assassination will be enough to intimidate the North and stop them from further provocative actions towards the USA it has been plotting.
