A Nigerian US based Doctor, Doctor Oluyinka Olutoye , has recently been appointed as Surgeon-in-Chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the United States of America.
Dr. Oluyinka O. Olutoye, came into international recognition after he led a team of medical personnel to perform a surgery on a baby in-utero in a Texas hospital, US, in 2016.
In 2016, he led a team of 21 doctors who successfully removed a sacrococcygeal tetratoma: a tumor that was growing in the tailbone of a fetus. After the surgery he then returned the 23-week old fetus back to her mother’s womb.
The medical team upon successful surgery of the baby, continued to monitor the mother and baby during the gestation period to make sure that there are no complications or issues. Surprisingly, the mother put to bed safely after 36 weeks, the normal 9 months period. Both mother and child were healthy.
With his new confirmed appointment as the Surgeon-in-Chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the US, Dr. Olutoye will head 11 surgical departments. He will work to ensure Nationwide’s Children common mission, philosophy and excellent approach in patients care, dedication to outstanding clinical outcome, commitment to academic excellence and education of the next generation of leaders in children’s surgery.
Olutoye will now lead one of the largest children’s hospital surgery departments in the world. He is currently making Nigeria his homeland proud.
