Former Rivers state governor Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has explained the real reason his late father named him Rotimi.
While speaking in an exclusive interview in Sunday Punch, Amaechi explained that his father named him after the famous lawyer , Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams (FRA).
According to the Minister of Transportation, even though his late father never met the famous Nigerian lawyer called Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams, he nevertheless named him after the man because his father believed that he would be a lawyer and should be able to do as well as FRA.
However the former governor explained that it was difficult to get admission to study Law . He explained that the first admission offer he got was to study Secretarial Administration
At the time , in addition to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination , Amaechi explained that he also wrote an exam to get into the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUT). He explained that he had even started registration as a student of RSUT before he was offered admission ( through UTME ) to study English Studies and Literature at the University of Port Harcourt(UNIPORT) adding that he applied to study English at UNIPORT because the school had no law faculty then.
Rotimi Amaechi however revealed that he had no regrets studying English Studies and Literature because it is all- encompassing adding that he would be glad if any of his children or those of his friends decide to study English .
