The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sent the names of 25 commissioners and special advisers-designate to the House of Assembly for confirmation.
Among those on the list were the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello; former Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Wale Ahmed; and former Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, among others who had held various positions under previous administrations in the state.
A statement on Sunday by the governor’s Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, said Sanwo-Olu “carefully picked the nominees based on their cognate experience in their respective professions.”
According to Akosile, the 25 nominees will assume duty as commissioners and special advisers upon ratification by the legislature.
He said among those selected were technocrats and politicians who shared Sanwo-Olu’s vision of delivering a city-state that would rank among the top most liveable cities in the world.
The governor’s aide, however, noted that the current list was the first batch, adding that consultation was ongoing to determine the complete number of the cabinet members.
“We have a blend of youth who are under 40 among nominees for commissioners and special advisers. Women too are well represented on the list. We believe Lagos deserves the best and we cannot give the people anything less than that,” Akosile said in the statement.
