Why I joined Everton- Iwobi

Alex Iwobi

Amid mixed reactions trailing his recent move from Arsenal to Everton, Alex Iwobi has revealed the real reason why he accepted the transfer.

The Super Eagles forward completed the move to Goodison Park with a deadline day deal worth 35pounds after making 149 appearances for Arsenal’s senior team.

Iwobi, who is one of seven recruits brought in by the Toffees in the summer window, penned a five-year contract that will keep him at the club till 2024.

Speaking to EvertonTv on Tuesday evening, Iwobi says the offer the Blues made him was the reason he could no longer continue with the Gunners, stressing that the offer was too good for him to turn down.

“I spoke to the manager (Marco Silva) and Marcel and they almost lured me in,” Iwobi said.

“The offer was too attractive for me to turn down.

“The manager was telling me, ‘There is a spot for you, we will take care of you’. Basically, all the things you want to hear as a player.

“I always had that youngster tag at Arsenal, so hopefully with this move I am able to make a name for myself in the Premier League and create history with Everton.

“It is exciting times for Everton,” he added.

23-year-old Iwobi was absent at the team’s season opener – a goalless draw – against Crystal Palace last weekend, but could play his first game with the club when they host Watford this Saturday.
